Welcome to Tracy Grant's Substack
Musings on writing and being a writer mum, historical tidbits, and background on my books.
After talking with a wonderful group of historical novelists yesterday, I decided to dive into Substack. I’m not quite sure what I’m doing, but I love the idea of a new place to share thoughts on writing and the particular joys and challenges of writing as a parent, as well as the historical tidbits that don’t fit into my books and background and cut material from the books themselves. My daughter Mélanie may also use it to share some of her own writing.
This seems a particularly opportune time to dive into a new writing venture as the latest book in my Rannoch Fraser historcal espionage mystery series was just released and I’m starting a new story, giving me lots of research and writing ideas to talk about. The Seven Dials Affair (released May 18) takes my Regency spy characters, Malcolm and Mélanie Rannoch, to a new setting, the slums of Seven Dials, and the back story involves the early 19th century revolution in Argentina. As always, I was left with a lot of fascinating research that didn’t fit into the book itself. Not to mention some scenes I quite liked that ended on the cutting room floor for the sake of flow and pacing.
I’m a novelist and a mum and also work for the Merola Opera Program (the photo at the top is my daughter and me at a wonderful Merola event last weekend, photo by Kristen Loken). So my schedule is very full. But I hope to be able to post at least twice a month, once a week if possible.
I hope you’ll join me on this new writing adventure!
Cheers,
Tracy
I've been a fan of the series from the outset. Each book in the series is better than the previous one.
I love the Rannoch series and am looking forward to you notes and updates.
